Description
In springtime love is carried on the breeze. Watch out for flying passion or kisses whizzing by your head.

Clematis
Family : Ranunculaceae
The work clematis is from the Greek word klema, which means vine branch, or tendril.
Looking at this bloom, it is hard to believe it is a member of the buttercup family (I tend to think of small, bright, and sunny yellow), but with about 230 species, variety is certainly a definite possibility. Indigenous to Asia, Europe, North America and New Zealand, found in the wild they are called 'species clematis' - distinct from the hybrids. (It was during the reign of Elizabeth I, the English began to cultivate).
Native Americans used the leaves and bark, or dried and powered the root, of certain types of clematis for a shampoo. It has been used for rheumatism, headaches, varicose veins, gout, syphilis, skin condition, and fluid retention. When made into a poultice, has treated infected wounds, ulcers and blisters.
Some people apply clematis directly to the skin for blisters and in a wet dressing (as a poultice) to treat infected wounds and ulcers.

Not far outside the side door, hanging over the wall, the white blooms began to open late February and now, in the midst of March, they are in blooming profusion. Out for a walk with my camera in between the multitude of spring showers we have been having, I captured this springtime clematis which had just opened to the new season ... taken in natural sunlight, unaltared, unedited ... nature in all its natural splendour.
