Description
Flowers....are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty outvalues all the utilities of the world.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Tulip
Genus : Tulipa spp.
Family : Liliaceae
Burnished gold is gold that has been highly polished; it is often used to describe gold antiques which have a golden brown colour. Indian and Egyptian craftsmen's mastery reveals itself in the burnished gold ornaments found in archeaological sites, shiny until this day.
The tulip inspired early Persian poets, became very popular during the Ottoman Empire and, representing abundance and indulgence, was chosen as its national symbol. The Empire's wealthiest period was called the Tulip Era.
They became more valuable than gold in 1600's Holland when prices soared, markets crashed, and tulips became a form of currency. In 1630, one single bulb was exchanged for:2 wheat loads, 4 rye loads, 4 fat oxen, 8 fat pigs, 12 fat sheep, 2 bogsheads of wine, 4 barrels of beer, 2 barrels of butter, 1,000 lbs. of cheese, a bed, a suit of clothes, and a silver beaker.
Alexandre Dumas wrote The Black Tulip, inspired by the popularity of the tulip.
Tulips grow wild in North Africa, Greece, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Kashmir.

It has been raining a great deal lately; this is what happens in our winter and springtime. Indoors, I turned to the vases of tulips I had scattered around to indulge in the season.
Uncropped, taken in natural light, the exposure adjusted to compensate for the dusky interior.
