Central London in the summertime, without its rain or fog, is a colourful delight in the sunshine. This image was taken in the afternoon at the intersection between Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road. The historic brick buildings are highlighted with floral blooms; the sun is streaming through the leafy vegetation.
The author John le Carre used this area as a fictional base for his novels. Movies have been featured here ( Slumdog Millionaire, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, and more).
The historic Shaftesbury Avenue in the iconic West End is the heart of the theatre district of London. It has existed since the 1877. As it is near Soho, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, and is also on the boundary of London's Chinatown, it is an energetic spot, buzzing with continual activity. Some trivia for those more musically inclined: Cat Stevens was born on Shaftesbury Avenue :)
The Cambridge is a traditional English pub on Charing Cross.
The original photograph was painted digitally.
