Description
The air up there in the clouds is very pure and fine, bracing and delicious. And why shouldn't it be? - it is the same the angels breathe.
~Mark Twain [fr. "Roughing It"]

Queen Annes Lace (cow parsley; bird's nest; wild chervil; wild carrot)
Anthriscus sylvestris ; Daucus carota
The finely cut foliage and airy umbrels of this plant can be found along rural roadsides from the springtime through to the summer. This touch of delicate greenery is often used in bouquets and floral arrangements .
There are several accounts as to the derivation of its name: one of them being its resemblance to the lace of the British Queen Anne's head dress; another that it was in honour of Saint Anne, the patron saint of lacemakers.
In the kitchen, cow Parsley (wild chervil) is an edible herb. It is the precursor to our cultivated carrot. The roots were once eaten by the indigenous tribes along the Pacific Coast.
Medicinally, for over 2,500 years it was used as a contraceptive (morning after pill), confirmed by modern day laboratory trials. The seeds are used for urinary ailments, and for colic.

I'm a little ahead of myself : yes, it is springtime here, although still too early for the cow parsley. But, since time has a tendency to move very quickly for me, I know I'll be seeing them in a blink. In the meantime, there is this image ... taken in natural light, uncropped .... with the exposure adjusted to provide a dreamy effect.
