Description
What if in your dream you went to
heaven and there plucked a strange and
beautiful flower? And what if, when you
woke, you had the flower in your hand?
Ah! What then?
~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Ranunculus (Persian buttercup)
Family : Ranunculaceae
The name of this circular, exotic looking floral bloom comes from the Latin (non-exotic) word Rana (meaning Frog) because of its affinity for damp conditions. This flower has been written about since the days of Pliny, and has since then traversed the world, from its native Mediterranean and Asia Minor, through the rest of Europe, Asia, North Africa, North America to New Zealand and Australia.
This perennial tuber blooms in the springtime through to the early summer. It belongs to the buttercup family, of which there are over 600 species. It is a very popular in spring bouquets.
