Description
Age is opportunity no less
Than youth itself, though in another dress ...
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow [ fr, Morituri Salutamus]

Bald Cypress (Swamp Cypress)
Taxodium distichum
This tall tree is originally from the sub-tropics, but does very well on dry ground, in sub-arctic winters. In other words, it does not necessarily need a swamp or wet ground to survive, but it will then not have the same knobby bottom as it does when it is in swampland.
In the springtime, it is a fresh green; in the autumn, it turns colour, from a pale green to a ginger brown, or even a fiery orange. It is called a deciduous conifer because it sheds its needle-like leaves in the autumn. And it is called bald because when it sheds its leaves it is rather ... bald.
This tree is large: it can grow up to 120 feet tall, with a trunk diameter of 3-6 feet.
And they are blessed with longevity: they live up to 600 years.

This large, long-living conifer is found in the eastern United States, Switzerland ... and in south Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where this image was captured : a cypress is in its youth, its boughs dressed in new, fresh, green needle-wear.... in natural light, unedited ... nature in all its splendour :)
