Allium
(Latin for garlic)
Family : Alliaceae
This family includes garlic, onions, chives, scallion, shallots and leeks.
There are approximately 690 species of this genus of perennial. Some can grow to 6 ft (1.m) tall, and are used ornamentally, such the Purple Sensation - commonly called the Flowering Onion - which will eventually burst open into a riot of colourful spokes and form a large ball.
The allium does have medicinal value; it helps the body fight against disease and infection, provides relief against skin conditions such as psoriasis.
In European folklore, the plant was a prescription for good luck and protection against evil.
Since the plant emerges from a single bulb, symbolically it is said to represent Unity, as well as Humility and Patience.

My apologies! I jotted down the notes ... and forgot to note the sources.

While this fresh allium is still compact and tightly bound in this image, shortly the star-shaped blossoms within will burst into a loose spray of life.
Captured in natural sunlight at the edge of a walkway through the trees; uncropped; unedited .. nature in all its splendour .
