Laurel
Laurus nobilis (bay laurel, sweet bay, bay tree, true laurel, Grecian laurel)
Laurus nobilis Augustifolia (Bay Willow; willow leaf bay)
Family : Lauraceae
In ancient Greece and Rome, wreaths of laurel were indicative that something was of the highest status, of victory. The Latin 'laureate' means crowned with laurels.
This aromatic evergreen tree (or large shrub) native to the Mediterranean is now found in many places of the world. At one time, large parts of Europe had large forests of bay tress.
There are several species of laurel. The leaves can be harvested any time of year, to be used as a kitchen herb, as an astringent, for healing burns and bruises. The berries are used in liqueurs and in perfumes.

Springtime is a season of new growth, new beginnings, new
opportunities .... which are just some of the reasons I love it so. Out walking in the warm spring sunshine, I captured this new growth and, while I think it is a laurel, I'm thinking I should do another walkabout and have a second look.
So, I will go for another walk now .. & take another look glossy-leafed shrub ;))

This is lovely Connie. The color is just so soothing and the soft background as well. I guess I better come by you for warm spring walks and new growth because we're still starting our days below freezing and I think our magnolias are all going to brown on their trees. They started to open with a few days in the 60-70 range, then we went to freezing temps, sleet, hail, snow and everything stopped - except the daffodils. I'm seeing a lot of brown now on the slightly opened magnolias ) :
