Description
And so there grew great tracts of wilderness,
Wherein the beast was ever more and more,
But man was less and less, till Arthur came.
~ Lord Alfred Tennyson [fr. Idylls Of The King, The Coming Of Arthur]
* ----------------------- *
I had a long-running fascination with the legends of King Arthur, and when the opportunity presented itself to visit his birthplace, Tintagel, I was one happy traveler.
We had been staying at Boscastle, on the Cornish coast of England, and after our breakfast, began the five-mile trek through the countryside, towards our final destination: the medieval Norman fortification, Tintagel Castle.
In between huffing and puffing through the stunningly beautiful countryside, over the hills and rocky cliffs, I took pictures along the way, and while this may not be the million-dollar shot I'd have liked it to be, it is a wonderful memory that I share with you to give you an idea of the incredible terrain leading to the peninsula of Tintagel Island where the castle ruins are located.
