Description
My idea is that there is music in the air, music all around us, the world is full of it and you simply take as much as you require.
~ Edward Elgar

Red Huckleberry (Vaccinium parvifolium)
This slow-growing wild perennial shrub native to the West Coast can be found in damp, wooded (often coniferous) areas and lowlands. It likes tree stumps and logs, and rich, decaying soil. The red berry, often used in jellies and preserves, is tart. It is high in Vitamin C.
The indigenous used the berries as fish bait in streams. The berries were also dried, like raisin, mashed and made into cakes for food in the wintertime.
Medicinally, the berry juice was used as a mouthwash, or to stimulate the appetite. The leaves and bark were used as a gargle for sore throats and inflamed gums.

This young shrub's tender leaves were newborn, just coming out for the springtime.
Captured in the shady area of a small botanical park in North Vancouver ....an original photograph, lightly painted digitally with a textured background I created for the colour & effect... nature in all its (manipulated) splendour :)
