Description
Sunflower
Helianthus annuus
Family : Asteraceae
This large bloom got its name from its large golden disc following the path of the sun across the sky each day.
It was symbolic to the Incas of Peru as the sun god. The brother of King Louis XIII of France collected the sunflower in his botanical garden, and one can see acres of sunflowers growing in southern France. In Engand, It was grown during Elizabethan times, and the Victorians, too, prized it in their gardens ... something which carries on to this day.
A perfect example of mathematics in nature: the leaves grow on the stem in a perfect spiral from base to top measured in an exact mathematical progression, identified in the 12th century by Leonardo Fibonacci.
Sunflower seeds are used for food and oil. It was the Russians who began the large-scale production of sunflower seeds. Bees and butterflies are very attracted to this plant. The bees are happy with the wax and nectar. The petals can be boiled to make a yellow dye.

If the sunflower follows the sun's path in the sky, then I found a sleepy one: either this one was nodding its head, about to take a snooze ... or it was a little bit shy :)
