Description
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon.

Japanese Quince ( Chaenomeles japonica; C. japonica; flowering quince; Japonica; Maule's Quince)
Family : Rosaceae
This popular ornamental shrub (and bonsai) is native to Japan. Its flowers are usually red, although they can also be white or pink.
If it bears fruit it bears, it will be small, yellow, and apple shaped. The fruit will be very hard, and astringent, and while it can be eaten raw, it would be an unpleasant experience. It is more appealing to the palate as a marmalade (apparently there is more pectin in it than in a 'true' quince or apple), a preserve, or - for those who imbibe - in a liqueur.
Apparently, too, flowering quinces also contain more Vitamin C than lemons!
Symbolically, quince is a symbol of love. And to dream of quinces means you will be cured of illness.
