The safety of the people shall be the highest law.

Kos is a small, picturesque Greek island of the Dodecanese, in the Aegean Sea, with a 2,000-year-old history. While it is the third largest of the islands, it only measures 40km by 8km , with a total island population of just over 30,000.
Homer writes of Kos in "Iliad," when Kos was involved in the Trojan War. The city of Kos (Cos) was built in 336 BC, and marble pillars and monuments exist to this day.
A gentle island, inhabited with the most friendly and hospitable people, it is innocent of rampant commercialism and tourism. The shorelines are all splendid: each side of the island has its own characteristic flavour of beaches.
Here is a scene of one of those beaches.
* --------------- *
Kos has had a good deal of press this last while, with sad tales of desperate migrants fleeing for refuge here. One can only hope their plight is remedied as quickly as possible, and that homes and world peace become available to everyone on this beautiful planet of ours.

Beautiful beach scene, Connie. Your description is equally touching. This is the way the world was purposed to be. Instead, the nightly national news heralds all of the horror and distress going on around the world. I too long for a better world someday. I hope to live long enough to see it........fav/ like

Connie Handscomb replied:
Michel, thank you so much! We love this island... such a pleasant place. Things may be a little different now, if the news broadcasts are anything to go by .. but this is how I remember it, & probably always will :))
