Snowdrop (Milkflower)
Galanthus nivalis (common snowdrop)
Family : Amaryllis
Galanthus , fr Greek gala = milk ; and anthos = flower
Folklore has it that, when worn outside, the snowdrops would keep one having pure thoughts (apparently, however, they were bad luck to bring indoors, so take note!).
At the top of the stem is a protective leaf that helps the snowdrop push through snow. A snowdrop has no petals; rather, it has tepals .
Its healing properties are known as far back as 1465. Galantamine is an alkaloid found in the bulbs and flowers of some snowdrops [Galanthus caucasicus] and is used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. This plant is also being investigated into treatment of HIV. As a floral essence, it is used
