Oxalis (Shamrock; common wood sorrel;wood sour;cuckoo's meet; sleeping beauty; alleluia)
Oxalis acetosella ; violacea; oregana .... and more ....
Family : Oxalidaceae (wood sorrel)
The delicate oxalis is can be found in the shade of woodlands and forests of North America, Europe, Asia, and north Africa. It belongs to the wood sorrel family. The wood sorrel is an edible "weed". The aboriginals chewed on wood sorrel to banish thirst on long trips, for sore throats and mouth sores, for cramps, fever, and nausea. They also cooked with it (this wild edible plant has a sour, almost lemony flavour). The leaves are still used in sauces and salads. It was a popular pot herb during the reign of Henry VIII.
In the mid-1600's, Nicholas Culpeper advised the use of the small bell-shaped flowering plant for contagious sicknesses, and it is still used today for a number of maladies.
The Oxalis Acetosella is considered to be the true shamrock, dating back to 385 - 464. The Druids thought it was a mystic symbol associated with the Celtic sun wheel: the Celtic name for little clover is seanrog, which became shamrog ... and eventually shamrock. It is said it will attract leprechauns to your home. .

This tiny bloom was just beginning to open its gentle swirl of dangling petals, ready to swish and sway like a ballroom dancer's gown ..... ready to dance into spring.
Captured in natural light; unedited; uncropped .. nature in all its natural splendour :)
