Description
..... as we wake from sleep, we repeat the creation of the universe.
~ F.David Peat [fr. The Philosopher's Stone]

Leucojum aestivum 'Gravetye Giant' (spring snowflake;summer snowflake,Loddon lily)
Family : Amaryllidaceae
This spring wildflower looks very much like a snowdrop, but is a much larger plant as it can rise ten inches in height. Also, there is a difference in the petals and while snowdrops have one bloom per stem, the snowflakes may have several.
Originally native to central and southern Europe, southwest Asia and northern Iran, it is now naturalized in North America.
One of its common names is the Loddon Lily, since it was first found and categorized near the River Loddon, a tributary of the River Thames.

My heart quickens this time of year when I see these blooms, so happy and grateful I am: they signify that our winter (rainy) season slumber is past, and spring is waking up.
Captured in natural light; unedited; uncropped .... nature in all its splendour.
