Description
Off the mainland of southeast Greece is the picturesque island of Corfu, the most northern of the Ionian Islands. North to south, the island is about 60 km.
If you're a sun lover, you will like the fact that the sun shines here about 10 hours daily. And if you like heat, you will enjoy the 32 deg.C. temperatures through the summer months.
A good majority of the island is devoted to growing olive trees. About 1/3 of the population is involved in tourism and related industries.
This is a classic scene, taken in the old part of Corfu Town called Campiello. It is a maze of narrow streets with medieval Venetian style buildings bouncing streams of sunlight off its crumbling walls. Old Venetian motifs still survive here centuries later.
