Cornflower (Bachelor's Button; Bluebottle)
Centaurea Cyanus
Family : Composite
Escaping the Mediterranean gardens into the wild, dry roadsides and open
areas can be seen populated with these blue, pink, white, or purple ray
flower heads. It became the national flower of Poland.
Named after the centaur Chiron, who was believed to have discovered
medicinal properties in the plant, the common name Batchelor's Button
arose when men in love would wear blue flowers to determine the destiny
of their love life: if the flower faded quickly, it signaled an unrequited love,
and the young man was destined to remain a batchelor. If it lived, he would
marry.
The flowers are used in cordials and tonics.
They were once used as an ingredient in ink. Watercolourists still use them,
mixed with alum (a transparent mineral salt).

Using my macro image of cornflowers as a base, I completely reworked the entire image for a painterly effect. The petals are going places, flowing freely throughout ... and off .... the frame ....just breezing through :)
