Katsura Tree
Cercidiphyllum japonicum
Family : Cercidiphyllaceae
Katsura is the Japanese name for this tree native to Japan and China. It is one of the largest hardwoods in Asia, fast-growing, attaining up to a height of 148 feet (45 m).
An unusual feature of this deciduous tree is that is is multi-stemmed. The layers of sweeping boughs of heart-shaped leaves turn into a variety of colours in the autumn which permeate the air with a sweet scent.
In springtime, tiny flowers decorate the naked branches; then the leaves break into buds of bronze, pink foliage. In summer they will turn to green, then vivid oranges and golds in the fall.

I have discovered a new tree to love. Well, actually, I didn't literally discover it, but I have certainly become enamoured of its wide, spreading boughs, its delicate heart-shaped leaves, and its interesting multi-trunk(s) ... plural. Not many trees can boast One trunk ... that is really several!
Since apparently in autumn, the leaves have a scent of burnt brown sugar, I will be looking forward to that season, paying close attention to cotton candy fragrance wafts in the air.
