Description
All that mankind has done, thought, gained or been: it is lying as in magic preservation the pages of books.
~Thomas Carlyle
* -------------------------- *
As long as there was a form of writing in the history of mankind, a library existed. In Europe, the Golden Age Of Libraries existed during the 17th and 18th centuries when an abundance of our most famous world libraries came into being, although it wasn't until the 19th century when public lending libraries allowed their material to become free and accessible to all.
Bibliotheca, from the Greek, is a collection of books .... a reading room. Here: an original image of a portion of a personal library re-worked as a watercolour (and yes, in reality, the lamp behind the chair really does stand at a bit of an angle, seemingly determined to add a touch of character to its design :)

This library looks to be such an inviting place with warm colors throughout and even a big comfortable chair ready to sink into with a good book. An ideal spot - nice work, Connie!

A wonderful, wonderful painting of a library, which I fear will soon be no more in the wake of the various computer gadgets.
