A place we never fail to visit each trip to England; an area I love to walk along:
At Beachy Head, just west of Eastbourne, England. The tall cliff, which cannot be seen here, is the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain .... ; the sad story about this area is that these cliffs are reknowned for their suicides. Beachy Head extends itself 535 feet above sea level. As you walk along the jagged cliff edge, warning signs are posted to take care, interspersed with the odd cross signifying another unfortunate departure from this planet.
This area is a chalk headland, with fierce winds blowing about from the open seas, and the hot summer sun bleaching the dune grasses on this high, open elevation.
Sun , wind and suicides notwithstanding, this is a popular film site. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Living Daylights James Bond film, the television series Luther , David Bowie's music video Ashes to Ashe ... to name but a few of many.
* --------------------------------- *
Hot summer days I can easily take, and during these record-breaking wet spring days we have been having, I miss it more than ever. It truly is a healer; how can one not smile when the sun is shining!
In the heat of summertime on top of the cliff, with the sea below and the sky above both an astonishing aquamarine, captured is what looks to be a goldenrod .... although I'm not entirely sure ... rising high above the grasses. Digitally enhanced to exaggerate the effects of the blazing sun on the landscape.
