Description
There are no rules of architecture for a castle in the clouds.
~G.K. Chesterton

Switzerland has many fairytale cities; Luzern (Lucerne in French) is one, and its striking architecture is famous.
The spires of the Jesuit Church (Jesuitenkirche) stand tall amongst the clouds, both of which are architectural delights here. This baroque-styled church, located on the south bank of the Reuss River, is one of the first of its kind in the country. Dedicated to Francis Xavier, it was constructed in 1666 by Father Christoph Vogler (the first stone was laid on the feast of St. Francis Xavier, 3 December 1666) with architects from Italy and Austria.
The religious history is as tumultuous as the clouds: the Jesuits were expelled from Switzerland in December of 1847; then allowed back in 1973.
