Description
Kayaking is very popular here. While I know people who do, here and abroad, I have not tried this myself. It looks so easy to do, as the kayaks float smoothly upon the water. It is, however, fairly strenuous on the ocean since the waves are choppier here than they might be on another body of water -- the ocean kayaks are more specifically designed for this -- so if anyone wants a tough body core exercise, this could be it.
Some say the word kayak originates from the Danish kajak; some say it came from the Inuit Eskimos in Greenland who called it qayaq, meaning "small boat of skins." What is in agreement is that while it is common now recreationally, it was originally used by whalers.
It was dusk on the neighbourhood seawalk when this image was captured, and the sky was darkening quickly as the lone kayaker on the ocean was returning home .... I'm guessing with a hearty appetite :)
