Description
“Alice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
The Cheshire Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.
Alice: I don't much care where.
The Cheshire Cat: Then it doesn't much matter which way you go.
Alice: ...So long as I get somewhere.
The Cheshire Cat: Oh, you're sure to do that, if only you walk long enough.”
~ Lewis Carroll [fr. Alice In Wonderland]

Calla Lily
Zantedeschia aethiopica
Family : Araceae
There are but a few species of this wildflower indigenous to tropical Africa. Their ethereal beauty so loved here is often regarded as an unwanted weed in its native country.
The Calla Lily is not really a lily at all: it actually belongs the same family as the caladium and philodendron. They are commonly white but also grow in a variety of colours.
It is used at weddings, a new beginning - as a symbol of marital bliss and devotion; it is used at funerals, a life ending - as a symbol of sympathy and purification of the departing soul.
While parts of this plant are toxic, so that young children and pets should be kept away from it, the edible rhizome was used by physicians of old to treat burns and scalds.
While it was a symbol of lust and sensuality for the ancient Romans, for the early Christians, it represented chastity and purity.

Calla lilies are another favorite bloom of mine. Always sleek and elegant, they stand aloof from their perky, more frivolous floral companions.
In spacetime (where black holes exist), space and time are interwoven into a continuum. This image made me think of travels in the universe, of space and time interwoven, of Alice slipping down the rabbit hole.
Captured in the sun; uncropped; a minor light adjustment .... nature in all its splendour :)

Hello Connie, the title of this lovely piece reminds me of Albert Einstein, interestingly enough. He demonstrated that space and time are inexorably interconnected. That's why physicists no longer talk about time or space separately. They always talk about space-time CONTINUUM.

Oh, Connie, the wisdom of the Cheshire Cat! So few get it and truth be told, it took me a good while before I understood it. To me it's all about leadership. If one does not know the direction one is going in, all those that follow will be lost. Now, this stunning capture of the Calla Lily? It is another example of Connie Handscomb leading the charge of fine art photography. I'd follow you, Connie, with camera in hand! My Fav on this early Sunday morn. F/L
