Family: Rosaceae (rose family)
Rosa, fr. Greek "rodon" meaning 'red' (eg the rosehips)
acicularis means 'needle shaped'
The rose originated in Persia, and comes from one of the oldest known perennial shrubs. There are 10,000+ worldwide.
Roses are equated with romance, peace, and fulfillment; wearing one is believed to bring love. They bring good luck, and if planted in a garden, will bring abundance - as well as bloom from May through to September. For potpourris, if picked in the morning as soon as the dew is dry, the dried roses will hold the scent longer.

We live in an area that gets a fair amount of rain [affectionately known as the Wet Coast]. Before the waterdroplets dried completely ... and before the rose faded away.... I captured this image after a rainfall....
