Description
"thenne he drewe his swerd Excalibur, but it was so breyght in his enemyes eyen that it gaf light lyke thirty torchys."
~ Sir Thomas Malory
There drew he forth the brand Excalibur,
And o'er him, drawing it, the winter moon,
Brightening the skirts of a long cloud, ran forth
And sparkled keen with frost against the hilt:
For all the haft twinkled with diamond sparks ....
~ Lord Alfred Tennyson

Excalibur, the legendary sword of King Arthur, was given to Arthur when he began his reign. It had magical powers that helped Arthur in his battles for sovereignty of Britain. For instance, in Arthur's first battle, its blade blinded his enemies; also, the scabbard prevented injuries from loss of blood.
This image was captured on an evening walk on our neighbourhood seawall ; my original capture digitally reworked, enhanced with special effects.
