Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale.

This is a slice of Zurich. There are many spires in this city; this is but one. It is found in the part of Zurich called "Old Town".
While Zurich is an international centre of banking and international industry, it is scenes like this that bring to my mind the Brothers Grimm more than the Brothers Koch. Cobblestone streets and the fresh, aquamarine river running through its centre provide a unique charm all its own.
This red spire is actually a part of the backside of the famous Grossmnster Cathedral. It was Charlemagne who first used this site, originally settled by the Celts, to honour two patron saints of the city.
The site underwent many changes over the centuries. The current historic Romanesque structure took 100 years to build, between 1100 & 1220. Fire destroyed the spire in the 1400's and the 1700's so it was again restored right through to more recent times. While the Romans and the Holy Roman Catholic Church had a very strong influence in the city, the Grossmnster is currently an Evangelical Protestant church.
This cathedral has twin towers: inside the south 62-meter tower, climb 187 steps and you will have a panoramic vista of the beautiful fairytale city of Zurich.

I played with the original image, added textures, to give it a look reminiscent of the pictures I loved in my storybooks as a girl.
