Description
I love her so much
That I never can tell
If she's sweeter to look at,
Or sweeter to smell.
~Cicely Mary Barker : Lilac [fr Flower Fairies Of The Trees]
♥ Heartfelt Gratitude for Visions of Spring featuring this image ♥
Botanical Name =Syringa ["syrinx" from the Greek, for 'pipe'; the pithy stems were used by Turks to make pipes]
Family = Oleaceae
Lilac fr. Arabic "laylac"
(Persian "nylac" means "blue)
The lilac tree is related to the Olive tree.
Lilacs are so powerfully fragrant, that even when they die, they keep their perfume: if you burn the wood, the fragrance will be in the smoke. Thus, lilacs became symbolic ... to mean 'forever'.
