Anemone (Windflower)
Family : Ranunculaceae
There are several species of anemones. They are one of the first flowers to bloom in the springtime, through the autumn.
Anemos, in Greek, means wind. The anemone was known as the Daughter Of The Wind because it was believed the wind was responsible for the flowers opening. Ironically, it prefers a protected area away from the wind, the gusts of which can snap its fragile stems.
This particular image is of the Pocahontas Fantasy anemone, which is a hybrid and which apparently won an award at a floral show in Holland for its beauty. I became quite enamoured with its flounce of petals. If there is a vacancy in your garden at present, this pretty perennial might just be the right tenant.

This typifies what I love about a good macro. It affords a view of details which would be lost on the casual observer! I love the little yellow halo of flower bits set in the center of what you so perfectly describe as the "flounce" of graceful petals. What a lovely, and interesting, image! v and tw
