And as men believe, so their world goes."

There are a multitude of legends and myths of cups, goblets, chalices and glasses which all represent the same thing: the input of something healing and/or spiritual; also, they are all highly symbolic of the feminine, and the cycle of birth and rebirth.
European medieval legends of 500-1500 AD believed the drinking vessel of Jesus during his Last Supper was the Holy Grail. The search for the Holy Grail (which did not always involve a physical object) occurred because it was believed to have a sacred and mysterious powers. The noble goal of King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table was to find the Holy Grail.
During Byzantine and Gothic periods of history, a person holding a chalice symbolized one turning away from evil; for wiccans, the chalice was symbolized female fertility, intuition and the subconsious. The Sufis believed the goblet to be a symbol of sharing.
The international pharmaceutical symbol from the Greek myth of Hygeia is widely recognized (Hygeia was the daughter of the God of Medicine & Healing).

A favorite classic springtime bulb grows upward from this green chalice, which is the base of the beloved tulip, the part of greenery on the stem from which the petals come forth. How appropriate for this bloom to grow from this goblet during the spring season of rebirth and renewal ... my tulip cup backlit by the morning light on a fine spring day.
