Description
Handle even a single leaf of a green in such a way that it manifests the body of the Buddha.
~ Dogen [fr. the Zen Kitchen to Enlightenment]
* -------------------------------- *
Sweetgrass
Hierochloe odorata
Family : Poaceae
We see this grass, and enjoy the pleasures its freshness brings to us, and probably never think that there are medicinal qualities to it. The Native Americans knew it was healing; for instance: a tea can be made from it to thin the blood. Smoke from the grass can be used to treat a cold. Smoke from the grass is also used in smudging (cleansing and purifying) a home, and as an incense to bring up one's spirits.
