Description
Japanese anemone (windflower; thimbleweed)
Japonica hupehensis
The Japanese anemone begins its bloom in the late summertime. It is native to China, and was discovered there in 1844. It was taken to England when Japanese gardens came into vogue. They have since naturalized there, and it is from which most garden hybrids are bred. It has been naturalized in Japan for hundreds of years. It can be found on cool, open slopes in North America, and in Europe.

As the season was coming to a close, I came upon these blooms in the woods. There was a soft backlighting to provide a natural glow. This effect to its centre seemed to levitate it above the petals, adrift on a glacier of light.
Captured in the sunlight ... unedited; uncropped - nature in all its splendour.
