Douglas Fir
Pseudotsuga menziesii
This majestic tree is named after the famous London Horticultural Society botanist, David Douglas, who traveled in the Pacific Northwest in the early 1800's.
Standing tall and regal, this tree can grow close to 200 feet high, with a base of five feet. The bark of this enormous tree is deeply creviced. It lives to a ripe old age of approximately 400 years old.

This young Douglas fir branch was captured in the sunlight on a warm spring afternoon; uncropped .... a treasure trove of light sparkled around its new green frond .... nature in all its splendour :)

Splendorous this is, Connie, and you've given us a no better representation of the beauty, strength and the magic that abounds from a walk in the woods. Sometimes, at least for me, the sounds of silence on a walk in the woods penetrate more deeply into the soul than anything else. Oh, yes, this is definitely a fav for me!
Connie Handscomb replied:
I have to agree with you yet again, Rene; the calm of a good walk in the forest rebalances , refreshes, revitalizes ... oh, the fresh fragrance of the woods after a rainfall! Silence is a good friend of mine, & you, another, thank you, Friend, for appreciating my humble artworks, means a lot!;))
