Description
" ... I'll tell you what hermits realize. If you go off into a far, far forest and get very quiet, you'll come to understand that you're connected with everything."
~ Alan Watts

Every now and again, we head down to a regional park in the neighbouring city of North Vancouver. This area has been a designated park since 1912, and has been well preserved ever since. Whether the pace of life has become too frenetic, or one just wants to commune with nature, a visit here is a welcome pause. There are several hiking trails here, and a pristine swimming hole. Other than the birdsong in the forest, it is a sanctuary of stillness [of course, in the summer months it is a popular destination for tourists who want to walk across the suspension bridge located here, but even then, the area is so vast there is more space of solitude than not.]
This photograph was taken in February, just as the forest was awakening from its winter slumber. The moss was extra fresh and green; groundcover was clean and bright with new leaves. Looking through and beyond this curtain of trees is a deep canyon below with the rising mists of the rushing water of the Capilano River. Flowing down the steep sides of the canyon walls are several gushing waterfalls, as well; the sound of the falling water is soothing in the stillness.
It is a breathing space of wooded green paradise, a calming balm to a troubled soul, or an added boost to an energized one. Whatever the reason for a visit to this serene area, one can't help but feel a deep kinship with the healing spirituality of this meditative forest.
