Description
Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste; look well to each step; and from the beginning think what may be the end.
~ Edward Whymper , 1865 [1st Matterhorn mountain climber]

One can't help but think of The Matterhorn when one thinks of Switzerland and the Alps. It is called the Mountain of Mountains, and straddles the border between Italy and Switzerland.
On a bright, sunshine day we made our way to Zermatt to view the Matterhorn. While it was warm, the air definitely felt much cooler once we reached the higher elevations. (We were saddened to read in the newspaper the next morning that a couple of tourists had been found on the mountainside; they had not dressed well enough for the climate, went hiking up the mountain, and never did make the descent down).
We were very fortunate to be able to see its pyramid top because it is often covered in cloud. This mountain is 14,692 feet high (4,478 m), one of the highest in Europe. It is a very challenging mountain to climb; the east face was not ascended until 1932.
This mountain is apparently one of the most photographed in the world, and I managed to capture it before the clouds once again reclaimed its peak. But I didn't like this photograph I had taken .... so I painted it (digitally) :)

Wow, a beautiful intriguing view of the Matterhorn mountain and this cloud that look as if they have become one. Stunning capture, Connie. Very, very nice treatement! l/f/tw
