Description
Traditions, traditions. Without our traditions, our lives would be as shaky as .... a fiddler on the roof!
~ Tevye [fr. the film Fiddler On The Roof]

On a day we visited the Rhine Falls, Switzerland (the largest waterfall in Europe), we also visited Schaffhausen.
This quaint, cobbledstoned city retains its ancient charm. The buildings are a traditional assortment of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo.
During the Middle Ages, Schaffhausen was a city state. Located on the Rhine, this city was an important centre of trade.
On the steep hill above the city is a ring-shaped fortress (not shown here; the Munot) which was built in the 16th century to help protect this important city. It is was during the (steep!) climb to the top of this fortress that this mix of rooftops was captured.
