Description
There they dance, arm in arm with the light .. you can hardly tell at last what in the dance is leaf and what is light.
~ Henry David Thoreau

Sumac (Sumach; Sumaq)
Family : Sumac (Anacardiaceae)
Sumacs are shrubs and small trees growing throughout the world, especially throughout Africa and North America, and while they may all seem entirely diverse, having nothing in common, in fact the poison ivy , cashew, pistachio, and mango all belong to the same family as the Sumac.
This colourful autumn plant has had, and still has, a variety of uses:
The Cherokee used a variety of Sumach which has an abundance of
tannin, an astringent, as a wash on blisters. The staghorn sumac has a high antioxidant rating.
The sumach roots were used by Native Americans to make yellow dye. Sumac tanins are used in the wonderful Moroccan leathers.
Sumac stems were used in pipe stems, for pipe smoking.
The fruit is ground into a popular spice in the Middle East, and used as a culinary spice that has a lemony flavour in foods and beverages.
Beekeepers use dried sumac as a fuel for their smokers.

These leaves hold a particular fascination for me. I spend a considerable bit of time capturing the dance of light through the sumac leaves; every autumn I seem to do the same thing, enthralled with the play of colors on the draping leaves....Taken in natural light ; Nature in all its natural splendour.

Beautiful composition. Excellent use of selective focus to blur the reds in the background.

Thank you so much, Spencer! ... this one is a bit trickier than most but I did love the challenge :))
