Description
In Switzerland, on a summer's day, make a visit to Wallis, take two loonnngg gondola rides up a mountainside from the alpine villages ... and reach the top of the world to see The Great Aletsch Glacier : the largest glacier in the Swiss Alps.
The glacier is about 14 miles long (23 km) and covers 46 sq mi (120 sq km). Its widest point is about 1 mile across (2 km). It peaks at 9,603 ft (2,927 m).
This area is an UNESCO World Heritage site and, as such, is protected. The glacier has retreated a great deal in the last 18,000 years ... frighteningly so during the last 80 years.

WOW; quite impressive scene and image Connie; you seem high up in the clouds (9,000 something feet up??). Got to add this UNESCO Heritage Site on my list of places to visit before it totally retreats. Looks VERY impressive. Awesome capture.

Many years ago I was standing there too...it's amazing that the glacier is still there and not yet completely gone :)
