'.... pleasures are shafts of the glory as it strikes our sensibility. As it impinges on our will or our understanding, we give it different names ... but its flash upon our senses and mood is pleasure.

Douglas Fir
Pseudotsuga menziesii
This majestic tree is named after the famous London Horticultural Society botanist, David Douglas, who traveled in the Pacific Northwest in the early 1800's.
Standing tall and regal, this tree can grow close to 200 feet high, with a base of five feet. The bark of this enormous tree is deeply creviced. It lives to a ripe old age of approximately 400 years old.

This young Douglas fir branch was captured in the sunlight on a warm spring afternoon; uncropped .... a treasure trove of light sparkled around its new green frond......
