Maidenhair Fern
Adiantum pedatum
Family : Polypodiaceae
"Adiantum" means 'unwetted' ; the fronds of this fern repel water
* ----------------- *
This delicate beauty has always been a favourite fern of mine. Its lush green floats soft as chiffon; there was a small breeze as I sat on a rock next to this one, and leaned in to listen to the whispers the wind and the green fan-shaped fronds shared.
Fragile as this plant appears, the stems are not: they can apparently grow up to 60 cm (almost 24 inches) in length, and were strong enough to be used in basket-making.

Oh, sweet, and for me, elusive, maidenhair fern. This is one of my very favorite plants, also, but alas, I have been unable to grow it successfully. This is a lovely image of a very special plant. Love it!

Carla, late thank you! Hi! & for me, too... it needs more shade, I think, than I was ever able to provide it ;))
