Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.

Ponderosa Pine (bull pine; blackjack pine; western yellow-pine)
Pinus ponderosa
Family : Pinaceae
The largest family of conifers is the Pinaceae (includes the firs, spruces, cedars, larches ie almost all needle trees). They grow as far north as the Arctic, and south to the equator. They can adapt to impossible conditions.
Each yearly growth of a pine shoot is in the form of a 'candle' until its weight rests it as part of the branch. Pine candles grow vertically (firs and spruces grow more horizontally). The ponderosa pine needles are in stiff round dense bunches at the ends of shoots.
The explorer, Jacques Cartier, lost many of his men to scurvy until he found out the Native Americans were using evergreen needles - boiling them in water and drinking the tea for the Vitamin C content to prevent it. They had been doing this 400 years ago.
More, from Rembert Dodoen's Herbal: The leaves (needles) of Pine tree healeth greene (flesh) woundes, and boiled in vinegar, they swage the toothache. (Dodoen was a Dutch herbalist who was professor of medicine and a physician to two emperors, again, almost 400 years ago).
Further: Parkinson's botanical encyclopedia of 3,800 plants, the Theatrum Botanicum, indicates that a water distilled from the the green cones was good for facial wrinkles. John Parkinson was apothecary to James I of England.
This tree can grow to 246 feet.

Standing under the bough of an enormous ponderosa pine on a bright, clear, blue-sky afternoon, I looked up ..... and saw the moon above!
Reminiscent of the days of looking skyward before man walked on the moon, some extra digital embellishments to my original image, and an afternoon blue sky became a starry night of celestial wonder ...a magical time when anything is possible ... :)
