Description
Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:
But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.
~ Christina Rossetti

Anemone
Anemone coronaria (poppy anemone)
Family : Ranunculaceae
There are several species of anemones (about 120) which bloom from spring through until the autumn.
Anemos, in Greek, means wind. The anemone was known as the Daughter Of The Wind because it was believed the wind was responsible for the flowers opening. Ironically, it prefers a protected area away from the wind, the gusts of which can snap its fragile stems.
In the 16th century, John Gerard had twelve different types of anemone. At one time in England, it was the most popular garden flower.

No, we cannot see the wind but I certainly know it is there when these blooms wave their petals at me, and their stems bend & sway. While it is native to the Mediterranean, I see it growing quite freely here in our parks and capturing these blooms is always a delight .... whichever way the wind blows :)
