Maidenhair Fern
Adiantum pedatum
Family : Polypodiaceae
"Adiantum" means 'unwetted' ; the fronds of this fern repel water
This delicate beauty has always been a favourite fern of mine. Its lush green floats soft as chiffon; there was a small breeze as I sat on a rock next to this one, and leaned in to listen to the whispers the wind and the green fan-shaped fronds shared.
Fragile as this plant appears, the stems are not: they can apparently grow up to 60 cm (almost 24 inches) in length, and were strong enough to be used in basket-making.

This one fascinates me. Your choices here could not be better. The tones are soft pastels, as is so much of the focus. But getting the branch like that was IT. That gives it three dimensions and leads the eye all over the frame. Absolutely beautiful Connie. L/F
