I love vegetation of all kinds. Trees, in particular, hold a special place in my heart. They are one of the most amazing lifelines of our planet. While I wish it had always been so, thank goodness people are paying more attention to them now, more than ever.

I am saddened that tree cutting is still very prevalent in the city where I live, while directly across the harbour , over the nearby Lions Gate Bridge, Vancouver committed itself to planting 150,000 more trees by 2020. Hopefully our own municipality will do the same, sooner rather than later. Seeing the size of the spread of a toppled tree's branches laid out on the grass in our local parks before the trucks come to pick them up is an insight into how vast these living organisms' lungs really are. (Replacing them with tall grasses is not quite the same thing!).

Several factors in autumn contribute to deciduous tree leaf colour changes: low light, water loss, temperature, are a few. Brilliant reds are created by pigment cells called anthocyanins having a cellular process breakdown (they recover in the springtime :D )
