You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

Close to our home is a park which I considered to be a sanctuary, and which I have watched change over the years; sadly, some of my favorite spots have disappeared entirely. It is not the quiet refuge it once was, since an entire corner of trees at an intersection has been laid bare, the row of trees that acted as a sound barrier from the city traffic were removed, and some delightful, sheltered areas within are no longer.
As the years have gone by, first the floral gardens disappeared, then the wildflowers were ploughed over, then the tree removal began (hundreds, I was told), then additions which were considered Improvements and/or necessary began: such as human size metal bins far too large for this small park placed in very scenic areas, aesthetics unfortunately not a consideration. (One is placed near this maple tree, which I have to carefully ensure does not show in any of my captures). To my despair, I noticed only recently more unsightly bins placed in some of the most picturesque areas of this wee park.
In the springtime, I had seen a favorite magnolia tree in bloom and I walked down as I have been doing every year with camera in hand for my annual photos of its blooms. I arrived to find a hole where it had been.
This lovely wooden bridge has been here longer than I have, crossing over a creek which runs itself through to the nearby ocean. Please enjoy this image while you can ... while I sincerely hope it doesn't happen, there is no certainty that it will not and one day this entire bridge might cease to exist ... or be replaced with something else altogether.
