While this lavish pink bow was on a present under a seasonal conifer, not all Christmas gifts are left for their intended under a Christmas tree.
Christmas gift-giving predates itself to pre-Christian Roman times, and Christmas presents around the world are opened on different days, in different ways, in different places. Some customs have them left on doorsteps, in boots or shoes, or hanging stockings (this one derives from jolly old St. Nicholas).
