English Bay in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada is located in the high-density, urban neighbourhood known as the West End. A major tourist attraction, it is a busy beach, popular all year long with activities; as well, numerous special events occur throughout the year, such as the Celebration of Light fireworks displays (the largest offshore fireworks display in the world), the annual Polar Bear Swim on New Year's Day (one of the oldest and largest in the world), the Pride Parade and more.
As a port city, the bay waters are popular as well, with both pleasure craft and huge freighters sharing the sea.
The Stanley Park Seawall runs along a portion of the beach. Hotels and restaurants are nearby, several offering scenic views of the beautiful shoreline.

On a bright, crisp November day, savouring the sunshine as the shadows of the season began to lengthen, a refreshing walk along English Bay with a friend allowed me to capture this scene of the two types of diverse watercraft that share the waters - the small sailboat and a large freighter.
That day was a particularly quiet one for the area, scantly populated on the sandy shore. It was a good day for reflection, and for reminiscing of the summer's passing.
