Grape Hyacinth
Common Grape Hyacinth : Muscari botryoides
Family : Lily
Genus: Muscari (fr Greek word for "musk") ... because some species have a musky scent
You will find these little plants most commonly in the woods.
The bulb is poisonous, but the American species Muscari comosum (and some others) have their flowers used as a dieuretic and stimulant. The flowers also have a sweet nectar which bees like.
The root is edible! It can be cooked, and candied. In Korea, it is used as a tonic for stamina, and as an expectorant.
