Rain, rain. The good rain, like a bad preacher, does not know when to leave off.

Aster
Callistephus chinesis
While we find asters blooming freely here on the Pacific Coast in meadows and along riverbanks, in wet forests and clearings, they actually originate from China, Siberia and Japan.
The ancient Greeks considered the aster to be sacred, and magical, and modern folklore portends that hanging boughs of dried asters in the home protects it.
In Chinese medicine, the aster is used to treat hemorrhages, malaria, and pulmonary ailments.
Asters range in colour: pink, lilac to deep purple. They will attract bees and butterflies to your garden.
The aster is the the birth flower for September. For marriage anniversaries, it marks twenty years.
The English called them 'michaelmas daisies ' because their blooms come during the feast of Saint Michael (Sept 29th), and can bloom right through to Christmas.

We have broken records with the amount of rainfall we have had these past few months, so it is only fitting that my bright cheery aster had a huge waterdroplet on it.
Captured in natural sunlight; squared ; some colour around the edges removed to softly highlight the reflective raindrop I was lucky enough to capture on the stem :)

Hi Connie, Indeed it is a photo - but it just has the air of a great pastel or soft watercolor painting about it. Either way, it is a great image of art, however it is created. :-)

Thank you, Brian! The glory of springtime is in this capture more than outside my window at the moment, Brian; raining hard for days, with very cool temps!;))
