Description
At Meggenhorn Castle (Schloss Meggenhorn) - in Meggen, the small municipality on the northern shore of Lake Lucerne (next to Luzern) Switzerland. Until the 16th century, it was partly owned by the canons of the collegiate church of St Leger in Lucerne. A number of marriages and ownerships took place over time until the Castle's owner was industrial magnate Edouad Hofer-Grosjean,who altered and extended it the neo-gothic style with architect Xaver Meyer in 1868-70. In 1974, the last owners sold the Meggenhorn castle to the commune of Meggen. It is prized Swiss heritage site, and is a protected cultural property letting us peek into an elegant lifestyle.
